- Training. Training starts from the moment your application is accepted and you will attend at least a three day training course to get ready for the role. This is just the start and after you become a foster carer you will be expected to attend training to develop your skills on a regular basis. Many of our carers do go on to take qualifications.
- Supervising Social Worker. Every foster carer has their own SWIIS social worker. They are there to provide support, supervision and guidance. They also take on many of the jobs of co-ordinating with local authority social workers. There is access to experienced social work staff via our on call system 24/7.
- Education staff. Education staff are there to help get children in school and help them stay there. We think its very important that our children and young people do well at school and work hard with you to make this happen. - Resource Workers. Resource workers are here to give you practical advice and sometimes do direct work with children and young people.
- Therapy Service. Each team has a therapist available to give advice, help you understand how to be the best foster carer for the children and young people in care and if necessary do direct work with children and young people. - Health Advisors. A qualified nurse is available for advice and guidance. They also undertake specialist tasks helping e.g. helping young people understand the importance of healthy eating.
- Support Groups where carers come together to learn and support each other.
- Children Who Foster Group where children of carers can get together for activities and talk about what its like to live in a foster family.
- Activity Programmes where everyone can get together for outings, activities and a barbecue...........
