SWIIS Permanence Service

Our Service has been set up to provide permanent families for children who are unable to live within their birth family but for whom adoption is not an option. These children urgently need a family with whom they can settle, recover from their past experiences, grow and develop their potential.

These children will need a family who can care for them until they are ready to move on, to live independently, and to continue to support the as adults- a "forever family". All children need this opportunity to build relationships which can last throughout their lives- people who always be there for them

Adoption will be the first consideration but this is not always possible because:
  • The child cannot be legally adopted.
  • There is continuing contact with someone from the birth family and the child does not want to be adopted.
  • The child's age, particular needs or uncertainties about their development, mean that adopters would be difficult to find.
  • A group of brothers or sisters want to live together.
This means that there are many children for whom permanent fostering is the preferred option to provide them with a stable, safe caring family for the rest of their lives.
