Placements Provided

Standard Needs Placements:

Standard SWIIS placements are offered for children and young people needing long or short term care in a stable family setting. Charges are made on a sliding scale which reflects the age and number of children.

A standard SWIIS placement has the following features:

  • Supervising Social Worker
  • Resource Worker who provides support to the placement and support to children and young people in school
  • Qualified Education Worker supporting each young person to get the best from local authority education
  • Health Advisor input
  • Carer holidays and carer respite (up to 21 days per year) provided by SWIIS Foster Care Scotland
  • Child holiday, festival and birthday allowances
  • An holistic approach of therapeutic re-parenting; foster carers supported by their care team including therapists.
  • Carer support groups and Children Who Foster group for the children of carers
  • Family Contact supervised by SWIIS staff (up to 2 hours per week)
  • Carer transport costs (excluding school and contact) of up to 100 miles per week
  • SWIIS on call 24/7

Higher Needs Placements:

“.. you know I haven’t stayed any where long enough to unpack my stuff . I know I was a handful and I regret treating social workers or anyone who tried to help me like rubbish… but if anyone was to see me now they would see how much I have changed … I know the entire placement workers were getting ready for me to run again, luckily for them I haven’t and never will.”

Young Person 2 years into placement.

We know that some children require an even higher level of support to help them stabilise and live in a family. We are always open to discussing the individual and unique needs of children.

Permanent Families:

This new service has been established through listening to our partners in Local Authorities who have told us that they require more permanent families who can provide robust, reasonably priced for children and young people.
